Playdead’s Inside is more narratively ambitious than Limbo—strobing from dark to darker to something more, while carrying the player from vulnerable terror to horror to gleeful revenge—with sound design to make your skin crawl, grim level art, and butter-smooth puzzles that create a challenging but polished play-through.

This game is like if a super fun deck builder had a baby with purgatory, a freaky-deaky escape room, a Super Nintendo, your dark student film project from 2011, and a robot—it’s weird and experimental and you have to love it for trying stuff and taking risks… or at least, I did.
